Meet The New Thismoment Developer Platform

Dec 18, 2013

Are you ready to take the next-generation Thismoment Developer Platform for a spin?

Over the past few years we’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response from the agencies and third party developers who have worked with Thismoment’s Developer Platform. Testament to our partners hard work and talent, they’ve continued to impress us over and over and over and over again with what they can achieve on our platform.

We knew we could do more to make developers lives easier and deployments faster through our platform. So, we re-imagined it to meet the demands of today’s time-sensitive developers. Our key goal? Simplify, build around the use cases of developers, provide consistent and reliable APIs and documentation, and make it as easy as possible for dev’s to get to the information and support they need (be that through their peers or Thismoment).

Getting Back to Basics

We started by evaluating the commonalities between API requests coming in on a global campaign level, test request patterns, and evaluated where the focus should be. Once the data came back, it gave us great direction on where to start.

After rounds of evaluating endpoints and usage, we took the human test and got feedback (good and bad) from our partners, and employees. We wanted to embrace the good and quickly fix the frustrations.

Weeks of research, sketching, whiteboarding and debating soon followed as we attempted to capture the essence of our APIs and how we to best interact with them. Even after making hard decisions on what to tone down and refactor away, we still needed a better way to present them so that no one should have to learn a new system. Our Methodology was primarily to focus on simplicity, standards and comfort with the feel of how they worked. We were really happy with the plan and had a really good time developing to our spec.

But Will It Blend?

Fast forward to the actual build of the platform.

How do we present this in a way that scales with each developer’s use case? Again, we had the opportunity to re-think a new presentation layer and support system that we, as developers, would be happy to use. It really came down to developers talking to developers.

Enter our shiny new Guide section and Discussion forum, powered by Tender. We felt that while developers deserve a 24/7 support desk for any concern, a simple Q&A can go a long way and can help build our developer community.

We all really hope you enjoy the new Developer Platform. It’s loaded with lots of tech notes, resources, and even some nerd love. It’s also ever growing. We have lots of the basics available today, but over the course of 2014 we’ll provide even more resources.

Please share with us the things you build, and reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
